    What is a Furlough?

    A furlough is a temporary, unpaid leave from work. In this situation, furloughed executive, salaried, and hourly employees will remain employed by the Company, and currently enrolled employees will remain eligible for their health and insurance benefits. However, they will not work nor receive pay from the Company for the duration of the furlough. This allows us to protect employees’ jobs while ensuring they can return to work once our communities recover from the impact of COVID-19.

    When does the Disney Employee Furlough take place?

    On April 19th 2020 all but 8 “Essential” IATSE 504 Disney Employees are furloughed from the company until called back for work.

    How were the 8 employees chosen?

    The number 8 is what the company had requested. 8 employees were chosen in accordance with Section 17 of our contract and the skillset required to do the work requested by Disney.

    When will the furlough end?

    This is a difficult question to answer. At present Disney has not stated a return to work date. Disney and the Union will be discussing this further when Government guidance allows the possibility of reopening. Stay Tuned.

    When the furlough ends will we all go back to work at once?

    Again, another difficult question to answer. Re-opening is unclear, and will depend on numerous factors.

    What have the Union/Disney Agreed to with regards to re-opening?

    The union has per a signed MOU guaranteed that seniority will be respected when recalling employees back to work in accordance with Section 17 of the current bargaining agreement.

    What about my healthcare during a furlough period?

    If I take Vacation pay during the furlough period does that mean my furlough is delayed?

    No, you are still furloughed even if you are applying for a vacation disbursement. This will affect your Unemployment Insurance disbursement for those weeks. See “Unemployment Insurance” section for more.

    Can I access the park during the furlough period to gather personal belongings, pick up prescriptions, or to access company computers for documents required for Taxes/ UI applications?

    You can receive what is considered a “Hall Pass” from TDA security to go pick up prescriptions and also get your W-2. W-2s can also be requested to be sent via email or regular mail. If it helps you can also move your prescription to any Walgreens free of charge.
